Is it fine to install a psu upside down?

I have seen some people install their psu upside down in a fractal define r5 series case. Is this the most optimal setup for the psu to get cold air rather than blow warm air at the gpu and the rest of the mobo.

By upside down do you mean fan up inside the case?

If you put the fan up into the case you will only be drawing air from inside the case out through the back of the psu. Which is going to be warmer than if you put the fan facing down. If you have a case with a bottom mounted PSU, and you put the fan facing towards the floor. Make sure you don't have it blocked and that you have a filter on it. It will bring cool air through the PSU from outside of the case.

Either way is fine. Just make sure there are no obstructions to the fan. The fan side of the PSU sucks air in.

yep like griffscavern pointed out the fan on the PSU doesn't blow air but intakes.. The correct way is with the fan facing down so it intakes cold air from the bottom and not hot air from inside the case (it should work cooler and last longer). Another thing is when PSU and GPU are near both will be fighting for air.

Note: you should only have the psu with fan facing up if you don't have your rig on a hard surface, cause then it will suffocate.
