Weird powersupply problem

Hello so I recently encountered some psu problems where my psu running at 500watts wasn't giving enough power to my pc. So I went out and bought a cheap psu at 550watts and it worked fine. No problems except that it barely fit my pc and was standing upright it powered the pc perfectly fine. I bought a new power supply of the same brand as the old one a Corsair cx 600watts this time. I plugged everything in and encountered a weird problem at my start up where it would start to start up just fine until it was about to go onto the windows log-in screen and the screen would go black and the keyboard would turn off. I tested it multiple times and kept getting the same weird problem but after that weird phase of about 10 -20 seconds the screen would come back and keyboard would turn back on. So now the next day I turn on my pc and this time the problem doesn't happen. I step out of the room for a minute and when i come back the pc is off everything is off except for the mouse. Tried hitting the on off button reset button nothing would work I had to unplug it from the wall to get the mouse to turn off. Now I cant get anything to turn on nothing at all the power supply just doesn't turn on. I have tried different cables and ports on the wall but nothing works, could this be I just received a dud of a powersupply? Or maybe I got a power supply to strong for my pc, Please help thank you.

Have you tested the psu? If you have and it doesn't work , I would return it if possible and get a refund and buy a good psu that isn't a CX.

This is a good PSU at a great price. It's 750 watts, which won't be an issue at all. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr

Then there's this PSU which is 650 watts. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0650v1

Both are good quality.
