Build Guide

Budget Home/Office Build

by manirelli

Our CPU of choice for this home/office machine is the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G. This processor has four cores, onboard graphics, and is aptly suited for all software in the Microsoft Office suite or the comparable open source offerings. The R3 2200G includes a stock cooler, so 3rd-party cooler is not necessary.

We're using a parametric selection of motherboards which will show the best priced motherboard based on our specifications. All of the motherboards feature the B350 chipset and an AM4 socket for compatibility with the Ryzen 3 2200G. They also include 2 DIMM slots for up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and are capable of using the CPU's integrated Radeon Vega 8 which is important for our office build as we will not be adding a dedicated graphics card. Please note that the new Raven Ridge APUs may require a BIOS update on your motherboard to function. If you receive a motherboard with an older BIOS revision AMD has a support page listing your options and will loan you a CPU if the retailer and manufacturer fail to provide you with an updated motherboard.

A parametric filter is being applied to choose the best priced 2x4GB kit of memory within AMD's recommended specifications. Ryzen scales well with memory frequency so we have upped the minimum speed to DDR4-2400.

We're also using parametric filters to select the best priced 2TB or larger hard drive available. Everyone's needs are different, so feel free to change out capacities to fit yours or swap to a lower capacity SSD if speed is more important.

The Rosewill SRM-01 is a budget friendly, quiet case that can fit all of our components. While it doesn't offer much in the way of cable management, there is room for plenty of storage in the hard drive cages. The case also has front panel USB 3.0 and a 5.25" bay for our optical drive. Cases tend to be highly personal choices, so make sure you browse our listed cases to see what suits you.

For the PSU, we're using a parametric selection of a few well-reviewed non-modular units, which are all rated for good power efficiency and can provide plenty of power for this build.

Potential Issues / Incompatibilities

  • Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Raven Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

It seems as though there is a compatibility issue here, right?

i love how this is in my opinion a gaming pc. because i cant run csgo over 25 fps.

Cyronetic 1 point 5 days ago

it can be used as a gaming pc, as a starting point. It's graphics are definitely capable of running games like GTA V at the right settings, and they don't have to be completely low either. I am going to try to build this. :)
