Sandy Bridge is still decent for entry-level gaming builds in 2017. Even so, this processor is too old to consider buying unless you're getting a significant discount on both it and its motherboard.
I decided on this CPU after some experience with a Phenom II X4 960T. I wanted to go the Intel route to see how it performed against the Phenom. Overall I was pretty happy but ultimately wished I would've ponied up for the i5.
Surprisingly snippy in games even though it's a 6 years old CPU. Benchmark tests put it at about 75% overall performance of the G4560 - http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-Intel-Core-i3-2120/3892vsm2227.
