Red is best for your night vision because it does not disrupt the rods in your eyes as much compared to other wavelengths of light. That's why you will see the military commonly using red lens flashlights to read maps at night. Plus, it's not as easy to see from a distance, which is good for concealing yourself from the enemy.

Oh, and good build! I have been thinking about setting up a home network for myself as well.
