You inverted the radiator bracket. Did you do that because you couldn't get the front filter to fit?

Did you have any trouble getting the front filter to fit? I have the 115i pro and finally had to invert the radiator bracket because I had so much trouble with the filter.

Very nice build. I was on the fence for a 360 radiator, but I think I like the idea of bigger fans on the 280. Bigger fans = quieter. Not a lot of micro cases will fit the a front radiator with that big fat ftw3 hybrid. It looks like you've got two 140 fans up front, two 120's set up as push/pull in the back and two 120's up top to help exhaust? 6 fans? Is the case pretty quiet with all those fans? Finally, do you think you need that 2nd fan on the gpu? 40-50c is pretty chilly. Could you get away with one less rear fan & the two on top?

Will do. I ordered one of those new Chromax Noctua front case fans yesterday. I'll open it up and take some better photos once the fan arrives.

You want a blower cooler in that case. There isn't enough room between the PSU & an open air cooler. This is a great build BTW. Awesome job.

Should be right at the end of page 3. Let me know how you like it.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Air cooled CPU with Hybrid GPU"

Thanks for the comment Cicero. You mention good airflow and that is a good point. If any GPU is pumping out close to 80c inside the case (because it is not a blower style), then all the air entering and flowing through the case gets super heated really quick and that hot air will pass over the CPU fans. The Hybrid GPU will drop the output by 30c (ish), will make the case fans run slower, which will allow the cpu fan to run slower - just general all around temp/sound drop.

At least in theory... I really don't want to drop $200 extra on a hybrid just to find out.

You've got the classic IPS vs TN debate going on. Once I started using IPS, I couldn't go back to TN. I waited for a monitor with IPS, 144hz, 27" & Freesync to show up and bought it right when it was released a couple years ago. It's been a great monitor. It has a few minor drawbacks - quirky freesync range and there was a scanline issue that needed a firmware update. I added my own custom color/image settings and just leave it there all the time. If FPS games are the only thing you ever do, then the TN panel would be nice. If you do anything else with the monitors - movies, youtube, reading, general gaming, then I would stay with the Asus. Look on line for settings to help you dial in the image, brightness, etc.

I'm currently waiting for the Asus pg35v to come out. I'm enamored by the 3440 x 1440 curved screen and HDR. I'm just praying they don't ask $1500 for it.

How does the hybrid GPU work with the air cooled CPU? I'm working out a build like that at the moment and thought it I'd mount the radiator intake on the top part of the front of the case so the intake flow remains the same through the case. Then add a regular exhaust fan.

I'm thinking the Hybrid will eliminate a lot of the heat build up inside the case, which will help the ambient temps inside the case, leading to a cooler CPU too. Is this what is happening in your build?

Great looking case. I just got the regular mini-c and want to ditch it for the tempered glass. Why did you take off the top panel? I didn't see any fans, so is it just to help vent out some of the hot air from the GPU? That monitor set up is pretty insane too. Nice job.

Thanks for the info. I like that H7 - be sure to post some more pics! I was thinking of swapping out my Noctua for the stock cooler. I'm at 3.75 too and usually idle around 37c and hit 75c under load. I think one of the issues is all the hot air my R9 Fury spits out into the case, so to maybe the Noc would drop it a 5-6c degrees more with a different GPU. 90c would be too hot for me, so I'm glad I asked before jumping all in and wasting a bunch of time.

Beautiful build. Very nicely done. That's a lot of volts for a 3.75 o/c. You having any issues with temps on that stock cooler? What are they idle & at load?

Nice build. Looks a lot like mine. I've got the tan Noctua's though - good call on the black and white - they look really sharp. Have you tried overclocking the CPU on that stock cooler? Tell me about why you put the GPU on the bottom slot. You mentioned it wouldn't make any difference - how does that work? I've got a Fury Nitro (ridiculously huge) in the top slot and would love to drop it to the lower one. The top slot on my b350 board is PCIEX16 and the bottom is PCIEX4. The top slot has 4 times the bandwidth, right? So would that be a performance hit for me?

I really like the look of that case. I agree with your thoughts on an open air cooler. That PSU is so close. 26c idle is downright chilly! 79c under load in that small case isn't bad at all. How are the temps with that particular CPU cooler? I'm running air and was thinking about switching it up and curious what kind of cooling you get with that smaller water cooler.

Great build! This looks awesome. Thanks for posting the temps. I'm dealing with some heat in my Fractal case and am thinking about switching it up a bit. Are the pumps loud compared to air cooled stuff?

Nice looking build. I wanted to go with the Nano, but there were no mini-itx boards available when I was building mine, so I went with the Mini-C. The Fractal cases are great. You did a good job here and I've been kicking around the idea of swapping some things out for a Nano or maybe a Core 500. I read about the need for a blower GPU and possibly a SFX psu and you confirmed the same thing. Couple questions: 1. With all those fans, what kind of heat are you generating? I added a couple 140's up front and use a couple on the cpu cooler like you, but I find the Mini-C still gets pretty hot. Do all those fans keep things cool for you? 2. With all the fans, does it get loud? I like a quite build and mine is about as quiet as they come. The trade off is heat. 3. You use the Silverstone fan header hub for all the fans? Any issues there? 4. Last question - how did you get that u12s to fit? I'm using the u9b because I thought I'd have fit issues. Is it touching the side of the case?

I had a little coil whine when I first got it. The whine happened when the card went for max FPS on certain games. MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner fixed it for me. I set the frame limit to 144hz and there is zero coil whine now.

You're right - the 1070 spanks the card at 1080p. At 1440p, it's a lot closer. The Nitro is overclocked from Sapphire and is basically right on par with the Fury X - maybe just a couple frames per second difference.

Very well thought out and articulated review. Thanks for putting in the effort. I wanted a mATX build and spent a lot of time going back and forth between this Phantek and the no window Define Mini C. It came down to 'Loud and Proud' vs 'Silent but Deadly'. I opted for the latter with faster non-lit RAM and a quieter case.

Nice job saving $130 or so on the storage. How did the extra 140 fan work out? Did it add a bit more noise and was there any noticeable additional cooling? If you want to upgrade the GPU - try checking eBay for a yester-gen board. You can find a GTX 970 or r9 290 for around $130, with the former being quite a bit more efficient and cooler.

Your build came out very nice. Your old man should get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Good luck on your next project.

Nice build. It mirrors my own build pretty well. I picked up the same fury card tonight to go with a 1440p freesync monitor. Even have the same keyboard and mouse combo. I'm using an R4 and was thinking about trying out the NZXT you have - any regrets with the case? Finally, did you have any trouble with your PSU? I'm not sure my 650w will feed the fury.
