It depends on the build. Blower style cards, though usually hotter, work better in some situations (granted probably not in OP's). Noise isn't an issue for a lot of people thanks to headphones so paying a little more for looks isn't a big deal. Besides you're an exception on PCP if you don't think we should pay more to make our computers look nicer.

H97 isnt optimized for overclocking so might not be worth it to get a k chip in the future. If you really want to OC, maybe a new mobo and skylake are in order, since ur planning on buying new ram anyway. Anyway, that pentium is neat chip +1

I agree yes having two monitors is definitely useful. A map doesnt need 160+hz G-Sync haha but I understand wanting identical monitors. +1 for having $639 to spend on symmetry :)

I haven't tested with the stock cooler. But Prime95 absolutely wrecks CPUs no matter how good your cooler is. In fact, I just tested my 4790k on a h100i stock freq and crashed my PC while typing this. I did not use any exhaust fans. I believe the Pentium just held up so well on Prime95 because of the very very very good Noctua cooler. Only $45 you could pick one up, but also know that Prime95 isn't a good representation of your temps under realistic load.

I have the same card, Far Cry 4 is rough at max settings on 1080p(including hella shadows etc.) BF4 DSR scaled to 1440p is fine. Far Cry 4 would not do well at 1440p, nor would most other games that are not as well optimized as BF4.

The EVGA Step-Up program allows anyone who purchases a new EVGA GPU to send it in (like an RMA) within 3 months and pay the difference between it and a higher card and have that new card sent to you. So I bought a 770, and when the 970 came out 2 months later, I paid $20 and got a 970.

This may or may not benefit you, as there are only rumors that they 980TI will be released in June. (It probably won't.) But the 980 is new, so honestly, just pick whichever 980 you like the most.

Typically more than 700W is recommended for SLI, but the 970 would probably be ok on lower, sure, but seems silly to spend so much and know it will be strained.

Comment reply on timde9's Completed Build: The Beast

But on the build itself, WHY get a $140 PSU, state you may want to go SLI, and then choose a specific $140 PSU that won't power SLI. Should've gone with Corsair AX760, same price, same quality, but supports SLI, also looks cooler. /endrant

There's only one 760 in the pictures, do you actually have two? Same question about the RAM sets. I believe there are only 2 sticks in the pictures, buy you put 4 in the list.
