SirMints 3 Builds 2 points 30 months ago

This looks like it's a great solid build that should get you pretty far. That said, now that you've got everything in there, I'm sure you could manage those cables a little better. Clean it up a little more and I'm sure you'd be even happier. +1

On either side of the radiator? Surely not with the size of the 1070...

manirelli's Build Guide: Excellent Gaming Build

SirMints 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

This is nearly identical to my recent build in terms of parts and specs.

A note to anyone out there looking at the Corsair 400C: It's a great case and I absolutely love the swing of the window and how it closes. It's pretty sleek and the power button has a nice click to it too. All that said, the PSU enclosure is a total pain in the butt. Removing and installing it requires some finicky angles and I ended up ditching half of it entirely (and the HDD enclosure it hid). But the two fans it comes with are a nice touch that make up for the $100 price point on it.

So Clean. Great work putting this together.

gsxrsp0rt's Completed Build: Vertical GPU Rebuild

SirMints 3 Builds 2 points 30 months ago

Looks good. How are your GPU temperatures now that you've gone vertical? I always like the look but having the fans blow into a solid wall an inch away makes me wary about keeping it cool.

I have the same card and I'm loving it so far.

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I just put up some pics that show where it was in the beginning...

Wrapping my head around the physical mechanics of putting all the pieces together for the first time was quite the mental chore that day. Just getting it put together and having it turn on when I pressed the button was enough excitement for myself to throw my arms up and shout out loud.

I could barely see the thing for how it looked anymore so the snap feedback I got was super helpful (if not a little embarrassing). But I'm so happy with where I'm at now.

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Thanks man! I updated it again with where I'm pretty much landing with it for now.

Graphite /Silver is in my bones now. I'm hoping I come across some more parts that I might be able to move in that direction.

I've seen gold-sleeved cabling but I haven't found a vendor with silver or grey yet, seems so ideal...

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Initially I had it on the lower front because I was having trouble with the fit. It looked totally haphazard. I've since updated and am much more pleased with the general layout.

That looks sick. I'm going for a similar kind of interior aesthetic and the same Black/White cables (eventually).

I like how yours landed.

compworks's Completed Build: Sabertooth Skylake Build

SirMints 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Ok. Good to know.

As I'd been thinking about it I bet the material and design of the radiator probably does a pretty good job of keeping away tons of extra heat buildup, given that's what it's meant for. The liquid itself should only help stave off build up as well.

Thanks!

SirMints 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

It looks like your fans on the H100i are set to outtake. Am I seeing that right?

I see a lot of builds on here that do that and I'm wondering if that's only due to the placement of the unit in the case (back top), as to push the rising hot air out? I'm not scientist, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the radiator by blowing it with hotter air?

The Corsair manual says to set the fans as intake, pulling cool air from outside the case through the radiator.

Is the difference negligible? Preference? Ignored by and large?

Any thoughts from anyone on why they'd go one way or the other is helpful!

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

As a first time builder, I thought it was going to be a breeze. It's definitely easier than when I used to open up and switch out parts in my cases in the late 90s...

That said, the PSU shroud is a total pain in the butt--unweildy, flimsy, can only click into place from a couple points of entry. I'd probably buy something else if I was planning a build further in advance.

Honestly, I'm tempted to replace the case entirely because bits and pieces are running into one another more than I would expect. But taking the sides off and digging into the main area is so quick and easy that it's hard to really dislike it.

Installing a radiator in the front with even the flatest of screws causes the dust shield to push away slightly, tarnishing it's usefulness. That is also peeving me.

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

How wide is it? The mount is pretty big. I actually picked up a Corsair SF600 to replace this temporaryThermaltake one with but it was too small for the PSU cage on the case. (only 100mm wide instead of 150mm like the Thermaltake).

If you lose the HDD casing inside the shroud you get plenty of space to work with and cable management shouldn't be much of an issue there.

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Also. How does one handle the GPU exhaust with a pretty standard ATX board placement like this? That's what I've really been trying to wrap my head around...

The 3 fans on the 1070 push all the hot air down away from the GPU, but heat rises! I initially took the bottom fan on the front and made it an exhaust to try to reduce some of that heat rising through the case, but I get the feeling th PSU shroud just bounces all that air back up before it has a chance to get pulled out.

The fans mounted on top in front and above the H100 were intake as well.

Maybe losing one fan in general....

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Thanks for the advice.

That cooler is totally moving up when I can crack it open after work today.

I'm less focused on the colors right now since I have some control. I quite honestly cannot stand red and black as an aesthetic and white boards and pieces always come across looking cheap and dirty IMO. Once I land on a configuration I'll reinvest in cabling and double down on color. Maybe silver/gray wiring to match the brushed metal look of the board. Just no red.

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Thanks for the feedback!

How are you liking the case?

Aesthetically it's good in my books but I wish I had another cm or so to work above the motherboard. I can probably streamline and come up with the space but so many times I've been running into configurations conflicting with the memory placement by just a hair.

Also. Man that PSU shroud is a pain, right?

SirMints's Completed Build: Gun Lab 01 - My First Build

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

Yea, that's how I have them set up but I definitely going to push the radiator up in the front panel. It's looking crazy splitting the middle in there right now.

Both the white LED fans are pumping exhaust as you suggested.

I think I went overkill trying to flush three fans along the front. :P

SirMints submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Lol. Hey! Gut reactions help too!

The intake/outtake and h100 setup has been driving me bonkers throughout the reinstall process. Staring at the thing from 5 inches away certainly doesn't help either. I could tell it was all caddywhompus once I uploaded the photos but that's a work in progress for ya.

speak your truth. I'm made of thicker stuff than this plexi paneling.
