not for gaming its a workstation for my dad's work. He is a CPA so no rendering or anything just a lot of multi-tasking. I choose the GPU because it was the cheapest way to support their cheaper monitors which use vga. please read before you comment

well if you read the description then you would realize that this was originally built to teach me how to overclock. I choose the G3258 because it was cheap so if i did fry it then i could get another one. then i had no need for it so re-purposed it.

well he was going to buy a dell with an i5 i didn't want to harm the performance in the future when these parts aren't as powerful.

the reason for hd 5450 is because the mobo doesn't support the right outputs(2 vga) so i had to get a card that could and that was the cheapest.

But on the motherboard the wifi card is mounted vertically and i can't find the bracket that keeps it in place anywhere so it's really the I/O shield and the bracket that i'm worried about

I'm doing something similar to you. I was inspired by the first episode of scrapyard wars. So i set out to go build a $300 gaming build for me instead of using the computer i build for my dad's birthday. The first thing i bought was a gtx 750ti for for $120. i then collected the $20 rebate and sold the card to a friend for $150. Now I'm going to buy a pair of gtx 660's for was lower than there worth and sell them so i can buy a r9 290 of of craigslist.

it's good to see im not the only one doing this +9001

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Bf8dWZ I saw your processor was from microcenter so i got a motherboard that matched the color scheme that was at microcenrter. When you get a proccesor and a compatible motherboard you get a $40 discount so thats why the price is less then normal. Also note that the ram can be bought in different colors on newegg.

To by the Z97-AR you have to go to a microcenter, just making sure you know that. If you are going to microcenter get the cpu there. It cost $199 and you get a $40 discount when you buy a cpu and a compatible motherboard.

Nice Mobo choice. MSI has very good quality parts. I would work on cable management. You should sit down one day on a weekend and cable mange.(I had t do this too) The air flow in your case isn't too good right now. Your load temps don't look right. Get intel burn test and 3d mark and run those to get load temps. then you might see why to cable mange. Watch this it will help.

yes it's a great mobo for the price. a r9 280x will work fine with it and you will be able to overclock the same as if you were getting a top of the line board. the would be a great system. have fun building it.

first of all not all workstation use i3. i was going to get an i5-4690 but the i5-4670k was $10 bucks cheaper at microcenter and it got a $40 off the mobo thats why it was so cheap. Plus I had to pick everything at microcenter and everything isn't the cheapest at microcenter. Plus i overclocked the i5 so that's why the AIO and it didn't want to deal with air coolers not fitting(I didn't have time to check if the evo would fit). ANd the box for the 650w psu was a 450w but they put they 650w psu barcode on it so that was a packing error on corsairs part.

I would of but all motherboard these days hove one VGA output and a dvi-d which doesn't support a converter to VGA. The monitors they have are VGA only and that's the cheapest graphics card that supports 2 vga monitors.

IT's not for gaming in is a workstation. They don't do any graphics work but they have really old monitors that have vga connectors and no dvi or anything modern(the struggle is real). And that's the cheapest graphics card that supports 2 vga through a DVI-to-vga adapter and the mobo outs for dvi doesn't support that adapter.
