AMD based build. Highly approved and startlingly similar to mine. Just much, much tidier. Good job.
Just bought the same cooler to stick on the same motherboard. Nice to know it will go on OK. Now I can just worry about case room!
The case is great. Like everything its not perfect, the niggles i found are there isn't much room for cables behind the motherboard tray and the front filters need the case front removed to clean. I also found that the cut-out for custom cooler installation wasn't quite large enough. Of course not an issue if you are running stock or install before you fit the board to the tray.
Other then that the case is brilliant. I would certainly buy again.
the specs say there is 165mm clearance and the evo needs 158.5 so it should about squeeze in.
I used the Zalman CNPS10X optima due to socket compatibility (no need to change the amd stock backplate) which needs 152mm and it breezed in with no problems.
Obviously I cant guarantee but I would say it shouldn't be an issue. The 212x was on my shopping list for a while for the very build that the Zalman went into.
One thing to be aware is that on my build the backplate cutout for the motherboard isn't quite right which is why i went for a cooler with amd socket compatibility from the box. Otherwise i would have had to take the motherboard back off, this shouldn't be an issue for a new build though (i changed mine after building)
Thats a very well thought out build. Great use of a budget. If I had had the space for it the phantom may well have been my choice also.
Started adding some more benchmark info in the description.
It looks loads better with the case side on but reflections are a swine!
Skyrim, Saints Row The Third?
My old rig wasn't up to much demanding. I have BF3, DiRT3, Crysis 2. I can also hit up the Unigen Valley benchmark and see what spits out.
When it is in its desk nook the light from the RAM looks like the boiling fire of a captured dragon....would be a good answer if I wasn't just a massive nerd that called it Smaug because of the red on the case.
Oddly the RAM is amazingly inoffensive in reality and gives a fantastic effect. It should be awful.
I stick to what I know and Gigabyte was my first love!
Its a TV avoidance unit!
Its horrible. It nearly didn't make it in at all, the write function is screwed but I do occasionally watch DVDs on it.
I didn't notice any tearing at all. Anything over 60 is wasted on my little monitor I just wanted to see what it would do. I may benchmark later if I get time before work.
Its my main PC in the living room. It's mainly used to avoid watching terrible kids TV and cookery shows. Its primary use is as a personal media unit hence the awful optical drive!
Awesome build, its living proof that you can get a helluva bang for not much buck!
Less then a PS4 and far more versatile.
Nice to see an AMD build. Mine is coming ever closer at last.
Thanks, I feel like a massive noob now!
I appreciate the help, this site is saving me so much money its unreal.
Thanks but I still can't see them?
Thanks. The machine will be used for movie watching as my family don't appreciate my taste! I do have some leeway on the budget still so will think about upping the gpu.
