ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

"Not the best".... what.

collegekid2k's Completed Build: Fallen Angel Ultimate Build 980 SLI - Everything from scratch!!!!! Goliath Beast!

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

Any particular reason you had the CPU cooler fans in that particular position? It seems to me like shifting both fans one step frontward would have a smoother pull of air. As it is, you have a CPU cooler fan right next to a case fan, which is a no-no.

Two words: Cable combs. Those cables look fantastic color-wise. They would look even better if they were all neat and tidy.

Oh god, that's a horrifying thought.

Get in line, bub!

kosanovskiy's Completed Build: I present to you the Silent Warrior build with lots of patience, care and sales.

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Wow, this is even more insane than my build that took advantage of several hundred dollars of black friday sales and craigslisting discounts. You deserve commendation for your thrift.

sayis's Completed Build: First Build, Last Build (WIP)

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

God diggity-damn! This is like the Batman version of the build I just got done with! Dark, sleek, and kitted out with more gadgetry than you can shake a utility belt at.

ebrainer1's Completed Build: The Device

ebrainer1 submitter 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Thanks for the praise. I really don't deserve it after I unfairly criticized your build, but I appreciate the kindness. Here's a sneak peek of what's to come: http://imgur.com/a/9ejPu

Regarding the plane model, I dunno. It belonged to my grandfather, and he had a half dozen grandkids besides me, hence the engines being MIA. Fortunately, you don't need engines when imaginaaaaaaaation is involved!

jipster69's Completed Build: Project Boreas – Editing / Lite Gaming / HTPC ($650 Budget + Extras & Corsair 500R Window Mod)

ebrainer1 1 Build 4 points 45 months ago

You're correct, actually. I humbly apologize for the harshness of my review. On reflection, I should be one to talk really, since cosmetic additions to my own build total a teeny bit more than 10% of its parts price. In short, I was wrong, you were in the right.

jipster69's Completed Build: Project Boreas – Editing / Lite Gaming / HTPC ($650 Budget + Extras & Corsair 500R Window Mod)

ebrainer1 1 Build 2 points 45 months ago

I can't comprehend why you spent so much on dressing up older, less capable parts. I mean, yes it's upgradeable, but again why compromise on performance now and spend ridiculous amounts on spangly accessories you could have added in later when you had the bigger budget?

Don't get me wrong, I purchased some custom sleeved cables for my build too, but I didn't consider them vital parts. At least visual accessories never get any less efficient for the price you paid for them. Parts, on the other hand, drop in resale value and capability as time goes on. I seriously can't understand this. Why did you purchase an ornament if you needed a functional machine?

ebrainer1's Completed Build: The Device

ebrainer1 submitter 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Thanks! Heaven knows I spent enough time agonizing over things being perfect.

ebrainer1's Completed Build: The Device

ebrainer1 submitter 1 Build 3 points 45 months ago

2 970s =~ +50% performance for +20% price from a 980. All research pointed towards 970s in SLI being the most efficient for 1080p gaming, and let’s be honest the 980 has awful price/performance.

ahmedkm_2003's Completed Build: MST 1

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Could do some better cable management. Just open the back panel, grab the cables which are lying all over the place like a bird's nest, tug so they tighten a good bit, and zip tie it all together (but not too tight, you're not welding them together, just lightly arranging them).

DTF1129's Completed Build: Fun Little Project

ebrainer1 1 Build 2 points 46 months ago

Why on earth would you go that far overboard on the power supply wattage?

Aleneahx's Completed Build: THE BEST THING EVER (kinda)

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

Eh, for the same price (or maybe even a little lower) you could have got a 750W platinum-rated one from the same maker.

SgtBFGunner's Completed Build: MEGALODON

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

The way I see it, pre-900 series cards may still be good, but they're the best they're ever going to get simply because the driver updates and optimizations have run their course. The power gap may be sort of small now, but the 900s will evolve and be optimized enough to make them worth the extra coin.

sleepytom420's Completed Build: First Build

ebrainer1 1 Build 5 points 46 months ago

A superb and respectable first build. I can honestly offer no criticism since there are no part imbalances, you didn't cheap out on the power supply or the case, and the whole thing looks fantastic. +1!

That and keep it away from windows, both open and closed, since exposure to other elements in addition to sunlight is also what tends to degrade plastics.

Chat_Ghosty's Completed Build: Monster

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

Right now, corsair has an absolutely fantastic deal on the AX860, like $30+ off, making it just $133. So for just 60 bucks more than what you spent here, you get greater part quality, way better efficiency, and more room for future upgrades.

Chat_Ghosty's Completed Build: Monster

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

I'm not talking about wattage, I'm talking about quality and efficiency. Gold efficiency should be everyone's baseline, platinum if you can go for it, and corsair makes some fantastic full-modular platinum power supplies. The power supply is really something you don't want to skimp on since if it goes, it can blow your rig to hell and back.

Chat_Ghosty's Completed Build: Monster

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

That power supply on such a powerful rig is depressing. Surely you can afford something gold-rated after spending 900 on monitors alone?

mortoon's Completed Build: First Build, 'The big white box'

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

You probably should have traded up on the power supply. It's really the component you don't want to cheap out on since its failure could mean your entire machine goes kaputsky. Aside from that, it seems you made some good choices, especially on the case.

ebrainer1 1 Build 3 points 47 months ago

On top of that... it's a 35 dollar cooler on an almost 3000 dollar build. 1000 on the processor and motherboard alone, I think he could have afforded at least something in Noctua's mid range.

runnermatt22's Completed Build: Long Lasting Build

ebrainer1 1 Build 0 points 47 months ago

Yeah... unless he wants to triple-SLI some 780's in the future... but even still. Planning for an upgrade like that is ridiculous.

He could have just as easily gone with the quiet editions. Either have a couple extra with the quiet editions, or go with a small number of high power ones, those are the sensible options for a regular-use computer.

techtroid's Completed Build: The White Knight (LOL)

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

There's also a handle on the back-top perpendicular to the main handle, just above the tab for the top air filter. Really gives you that extra stabilization.

gera1219's Completed Build: First gaming PC build

ebrainer1 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Forget better graphics, you needed a higher quality power supply. 60 dollars is on the razor's edge of cheapness.

Captainfox's Completed Build: Arcadia

ebrainer1 1 Build 2 points 47 months ago

The picture clearly shows a non-modular power supply. Must be a pre-completion picture with test parts, in which case it should probably be replaced by a picture of the full build.

Captainfox's Completed Build: Arcadia

ebrainer1 1 Build 0 points 47 months ago

Kind of a weird power supply choice. Not only is it astronomically more power than you need, but it's non-modular. You could have gotten a nice platinum-efficiency modular power supply from corsair for the same price.
