DBMS engine eer, sits in a corner (home) office, after over 40 years of listening to fan noise doesn't want to hear it any more. Fans, that is.
I've always been more of a close to the hardware software type. I've worked on operating systems (TOPS-10, and if that tells you how old I am you can just shut up about it), compilers, linkers, assemblers, and whatnot; but the last few decades have been all about database management systems, specifically SQL query engines.
I also sit on the US and international SQL Standards bodies, DM32.2 and JTC 1 / SC 32 / WG 3 respectively, which allows Captain Pedantic out of his confinement for a few weeks of unbridled nit-picking each year.
