Great build, still blows my mind how they pick 970s though when the 390 is here.

Not trying to be that guy, but you should've picked smarter components.

Get the 5820K, and a better GPU.

You really should have gotten a Fury Nitro instead of a 980. With better DX12 performance and better latency in VR, it was a no brainier.

I mean, like the 700 series cards got gimped to make the 900 series cards much better.

A 960 was beating a 780 Ti, that doesn't really sound right to me.

I currently have a single 980 ti, and it has been a monster in all games to date. I just worry about the future of the card.

the FX8350 is great for a gaming build. With DX12 on the horizon all cores will be utilized in harmony.

I got my Fury X for $550, and an MG279Q for $450. Total was $1000.

Now, If i were to get a 980Ti $600 + PG279Q $799.99. Total would be $1400

You tell me if that $400 difference is worth it to you for the extra 5fps i get when i OC the 980 ti and grab an identical monitor.

I didn't edit prices at all. I just left them there. This build was under 1K.

The RAM cost me $70 for 16GB of dat DDR4.

Yeah, single card solution is the way to go.

Fury x or 980ti.

Even when SLI'd, the 970 still goes through the 3.5Gb issue.

much more power efficient than AMD, and run cooler as well

What? The R9 380 beats the 960 while consuming just a tad bit more power (30w) and stays at the same cool temps and has 4GB of Vram!

Not to mention, the 380 has been so cheap lately.

Yeah, X99 is expensive but I browsed and browsed reddits buildapcsales and got some really amazing deals. I found they had 5820K's at my local Fry's for under $300, meaning its cheaper than Skylake and the 4970K.

The case was also a steal. I was surprised no one had purchased it for the asking price of $70. So I threw him $50 and he said that's fine :)

Thanks for looking bud :) X99 on a budget is possible just have to wait for sales.

And it keeps temps quiet nice. This is my first air cooler ever and i'm enjoying it so far :)

Why not go with the 5820K since you're going to do be doing CPU intensive tasks? they both cost the same thing except the 5820k has 6 cores and more threads.

At that budget, you could've gone for a 5960x or 5820K and still keeping the same graphics. Not to mention the performance increase and more cores will help you a lot in college.

I built a 5960x machine for 2.5K but with a r9 390 since I'm not going to do heavy gaming.
