PCPartPicker Blog Post "Charity:Water Completion Report #9"

mikemjr 4 points 5 months ago

This is wonderful. The world needs two or three billion more people just like you fine folks at PCPP. Your humanity is truly spectacular and from now on I will purchase all my computer parts right from this site to help bring clean water to those who don't have it.

After a little more research and a few changes to my parts list I have brought the cost of this project down quite a bit which will help get this build off the ground sooner.

Please comment as to what you think of these changes and whether you think the parts list can be improved even more.

The changes I made are....

  1. Motherboard - Changed to an Asus Z170A
  2. Ram - 64GB to 32GB. I can upgrade to 64GB later if I think I'll need it.
  3. SSD - Going with a Crucial 480GB
  4. HDD - Eliminated from the list. I have a lower capacity HDD that I can use.
  5. OS - Eliminated from the list. I can run PixInsite on Linux

The part cost went from $1914.39 to $1174.93. A savings of $739.46,.
