I'm a fan of the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. It's non-conductive too, so you don't have to be too cautious about it shorting your board out

Oh, ok. I was wondering why anyone would downgrade like that, the 1080ti is a beast of a GPU

But this summer, I want to buy a i7 8700K + maximus hero + NZXT X62 rev 2 + G.skill trident Z gb 16 gb 3200Mhz and a 1080ti :).

That would an amazing rig! I'm using a i7-8700K + ASUS Maximus X Hero + NZXT X62 + 16GB DDR4-3200 G.Sill Trident Z + 1080 and I average over 90fps on every single game with max settings. I can't imagine how well a 1080ti would fit into that!

Solid parts list! I would love to get a 1080ti in my build!

In the description, you say you are "waiting for the 1070ti." Does that mean you downgraded from a 1080ti to a 1070ti?

I would be glad to help! What exactly is your issue? In the mean time, try changing these two settings to see if they help:

Inside the ASUS BIOS (Turn Advanced Mode "on"), go to Extreme Tweaker > Ai Overclock Tuner > Use XMP

Or you can try going inside the ASUS BIOS (Turn Advanced Mode "on"), and going to Extreme Tweaker > ASUS MultiCore Enhancement > Disable

Let me know if that fixes your problem!

It is a true beauty! Coming from a 60Hz monitor, the 144Hz refresh rate looks stunning! Plus, the colors are crisp!

I would be glad to help you solve your issue!

Did you plug the USB 2.0 Mini-B connector into the cooler and the USB 2.0 motherboard connector into the internal USB 2.0 port on the motherboard?

Did you plug the power connector into the cooler and the SATA power connector into a SATA power cable from your power supply?

Inside the ASUS BIOS (Turn Advanced Mode "on"), go to Extreme Tweaker > Ai Overclock Tuner > Use XMP

Inside the ASUS BIOS (Turn Advanced Mode "on"), go to Extreme Tweaker > ASUS MultiCore Enhancement > Disable

Did you connect a SATA power cable to the SATA power connector on the fan splitter cable that came with the cooler (if your fans are plugged into it)?

Have you tried reinstalling the thermal paste?

We got that same compatibility issue. With our motherboard, all it means is that the SATA port 1 will be disabled if a M.2 SSD is inserted and in SATA mode, and that SATA ports 5-6 will be disabled when an M.2 SSD is inserted while operating in PCIEX4 mode. (Source (Page: "x", Section: "Storage"))

We have not encountered any issues with this because we do not need all 6 SATA ports, and were completely open for using only SATA ports 1-4 (We are using the M.2_1 slot in PCIEX4 mode). Plus, SATA ports 1-4 are hidden behind our GPU, so it helps with cable management.

To make the fan face out, you will need to vertically mount your GPU

To cover the PSU, you have a couple of options:
1) Make a custom PSU cover out of metal or out of acrylic

2) Buy a PSU cover

Wow... So, I just realized you asked this on the other build page, and I answered it there, but here's a more solid answer anyway.

Sorry for the late response, PCPP never notified me of a new comment, I just happened to see it now.

If you leave it stock, it does act as a huge bottleneck for the gpu, but overclocked to 3.8GHz provides a 258% increase in the max FPS reached in a Heaven Benchmark on ultra settings. I have read things about people getting a stable overclock at 4.6GHz, but with my setup, I was unable to reach anything higher than 3.8GHz. I am still satisfied with how well it performs. There is still probably a difference between the performance of an i5 and the Xeon X5650, but for me, it works absolutely amazing for $30. Plus, the difference between the two can't be worth $170.

Granted, the Xeon X5650 does run hot. I hit an average of 80°C under load, so getting an i5 would definitely be cooler, with an average of around 50-60°C (according to build on PCPP) under load.

There is a bottle neck. If you look at the benchmarks for the stock build, you can tell the gpu wasn't reaching full potential. The games still run great though! I wonder how well they would run if the Xeon was over clocked...

At stock, I was getting an average of over 60fps with ultra settings in Just Cause 3 and an average of 80fps with max setting is CS:GO. I wish I had more, but that's all I have played so far. Hope that helps and good luck!

You think it's effecting air flow (with only two case fans, I kinda need that to be as good as possible)? To me, since I can't see the wires, as long as air flow is as good as I can make it, why go through the trouble.

Comment reply on p_nlsn's Completed Build: The Ultimate Gaming Budget Build

I probably can, I just thought it would be easier to run the wires straight behind the hard drive bays

Comment reply on p_nlsn's Completed Build: The Ultimate Gaming Budget Build

No problem!

I used some cable ties to tie up the extra power cables and excess fan cable, etc. behind the hard drive bays. Do you think it could still use a little more? To me, the only wire that's out of place is the GPU power cable, and there's not much I can do about that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks. I would prefer a black and red ASUS, but like I said to EpikMark0123, with all eBay parts, I can't complain. It does have a nice blue look though.

Thanks! You have a pretty solid build too. I was going for an all black/red color scheme, but with mostly all eBay parts, I can't complain. The best I was able to do was have a black/red outside, which is what matters the most.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I am still waiting on components to be delivered, but I will upload pics as I receive them. All photos will be up by April 6
