I don't believe I have, seems to be a newer guide than when I tried calibrating it last. I'll give it a go.
Fan is actually good, it's consistently putting out 2000rpm. Going to check a few more things tomorrow especially the standoffs, thinking I may have popped one out. Either way I think it'd be in my best interest to get a new HSF.
I'd have to say it did pretty well considering I've been out of the loop for the past 7 years. It performs very well, running FC4 and Dragon Age @ max detail with FPS consistently in 70-140 range. I lost a bit of performance in DA because I reverted to some older nvidia drivers for Swtor which has an outdated pos game engine, however turns out downclocking the GPU on the 980 by 50Mhz lets me run Swtor without crashes so I'll likely reinstall the newest drivers soon. The only thing I think I would change is the monitor because of the terrible viewing angle and my inability to get it correctly calibrated. I still have 10 days to return it so that may happen.
As far as the CPU, I couldn't justify paying $200 more for 200 more Mhz, especially more so since I was able to overclock to 4.5Ghz. I bet I could get it to 5Ghz no problem but I'm waiting for the summer heat before I try that. Definitely go for an Asus X99 if you're into OCing because this series is strictly built for it.
I can't say I've had that problem. I've been using Evga Precision for fan control on the card, the built in control doesn't seem to get the fans spinning fast enough when gaming. They fire up to around 50% when I game, after exiting game they drop RPMs pretty quick and I don't hear any coil whine that I'm aware of. They completely shut off when the GPU temp reaches 35C.
Haha, we shall see.
Win 7 for life until Win 10 hits! Looks like upvote is at the very top left. Thanks.
I see, thanks for the info. One last question, had you at all tried mounting the H100i to the top of the case? I'm starting to think I may have clearance issues with the X99-Pro white cover and mosfet heat shield when mounting to the top in the R4.
Dug up this thread searching Google, I was wondering how I can mark my items as purchased as well. Still seems the only way to do this is manually enter price for each part and mark as purchased, is this really the only way?!
Funny, your build is almost identical to the one I'll be putting together except I went with R4 over the R5. Can you elaborate on the 'weird double boot' thing that you're experiencing with the X99-Pro? I can't find any information on this.
I'm thinking of going with H80i for my new build with R4 as well. I noticed that you only have one exhaust fan at the top, was this by choice or will a second fan not fit on top with the H80i?

My thoughts exactly, I don't mind paying more if it lengthens the lifespan. I can eventually upgrade to an 8 core when the price comes down.
Ah thanks, missed that..way down the page.
Yep this is exactly what I'm going for...upgrade to 8 core in a couple years when the price comes done.
Yes, probably not worth it now, however in 2-3 years I'd probably need to upgrade my motherboard if I went with 1150 don't ya think? Future proofing to me is having a motherboard that will last the longest because it's the most difficult to upgrade. If you have to upgrade MB, might as well put together a new computer.
Any other recommendations for a case? I didn't realize I could get magnetic dust filters for the outside so this leaves a lot more options open.
How is the NZXT as far as dust filtering? And no external 5.25?!! I don't get it. The 500R looks decent but a little more minimalistic, had the same opinion with the Fractals as well.
